Frequently Asked Questions
How much time should I expect to invest?
This can vary a lot and generally depends on a few variables — namely, the specific goals you have for therapy, your particular history, and how quickly we connect as therapist and client.
How often will we meet?
My preference is to meet weekly with clients at the start of therapy so that we can become acquainted with each other and feel some momentum towards your goals. It is not uncommon to move to biweekly sessions once a client feels some increased stability.
How long are sessions?
For individual clients, sessions typically last 55 minutes. In some cases, a client will request a 75-minute or 90-minute session if they need increased support or would prefer a more spacious session.
For couples and relationships, my preference is that we meet for 75 minutes.
Is this traditional talk therapy?
We will do lots of what you might imagine when you think of talk therapy: discuss pivotal life events, explore historical themes and themes of childhood, and observe reactions to interactions with loved ones and underlying emotions that arise.
However, my approach also incorporates somatic work, emotional experiencing, and relational processing.
Somatic Work: We will work with sensation in the body and the way it arises alongside or in response to emotion.
Emotional Experiencing: We will learn about your physiological experience of emotion and the adaptive ways you’ve learned to cope with unwanted emotion.
Relational Processing: I will be openly curious about how it feels to be in connection with me. I might ask how it feels to share something tender or vulnerable with me, or what it is like for us to navigate a moment of tension or conflict.
Therapy is expensive. Are there options if I can’t afford your rates?
I reserve a portion of reduced rate slots in my caseload for those who would benefit from financial assistance. I also accept HSA and FSA cards (in addition to standard credit and debit cards).
June 2026: My reduced rate slots are full at this time. Feel free to ask in your consultation if this has changed.
Do you accept insurance?
I currently do not take insurance but am happy to provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company. I recommend asking your insurance company to see if your plan covers out-of-network mental health care.
Do you offer virtual therapy?
Yes, I offer HIPAA-compliant teletherapy as well as in-person therapy at my offices in Denver and Boulder.
